Sophie Lloyd at the Underworld Camden, London 2024

Sophie Lloyd sold out the Underworld in London for her first-ever solo show! Her gig was previously to be held at The Camden Assembly but after selling it out in under a day, the venue was upgraded to this one down the road. Having played hundreds of concerts all over the world with Machine Gun Kelly in the last few years, it was finally time for her to shine on her own and she packed out the venue!

Heading over to the venue, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the night as she is a solo guitarist, I didn’t know how it was going to work as a concert, but I was very impressed. Sophie Lloyd was joined on stage by her fiancé Chris Painter, her publicist Adam Sagir on bass, Christian Rivers on guitar, Gaz Twist on vocals and her former bandmate Marisa Rodriguez from Marisa and the Moths on vocals too. Sophie was formerly the guitarist for Marisa and the Moths before leaving the band to pursue her solo career. Being surrounded by all these friends on stage, made for a very wholesome evening.

She took to the stage and started playing ‘Battlegrounds’ from her debut EP ‘Delusions’ before leading into ‘Bulletproof Revolver’, her 2019 single. She was mesmerising to watch shred on the guitar. Right from the beginning, the crowd stood watching in awe. The gig started with many of her older songs before being pulled in even further with songs off her latest album ‘Imposter Syndrome’. With Imposter syndrome being a whole album of collaborations, she was then joined on stage by Gaz Twist and Marisa Rodriguez who took it in turns to sing the lyrics from the various featured artists. ‘Let It Hurt’, ‘Fall Of Man’ and ‘Pressure’ were performed with Gaz Twist and the whole band and sound technicians did an amazing job of making sure she was always at the forefront and centre of attention throughout the entire show as she captivated the audience.

She covered ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica and ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/DC before bringing out Marisa to perform their song ‘Won’t You Come’ together which was very catchy. They then played ‘Runaway’ and ‘Hanging On’ before the band left the stage and Sophie played her jaw-dropping solo from ‘Comfortably Numb’, from her debut album ‘Shred Vol. 1’, by herself which silenced the crowd.

She was then re-joined by her band for ‘Delusions’ before giving a little speech about how she overcame imposter syndrome hence the name of her album, before playing the album’s title track. It was then time for ‘Avalanche’ and ‘Judge and Jury’ before ending the evening with a cover of Machine Gun Kelly’s ‘I Think I’m Ok’ with Marisa and ‘Do Or Die’ with everyone on stage.

Overall, it made for an amazing evening! You could tell how much fun everyone was having on stage and Sophie’s artistry was insane to witness. Sophie put on such a performance and created a phenomenal atmosphere throughout the show. She even had people handing out inflatable guitars to fans so they could join in with the shredding.

Sophie Lloyd is absolutely killing the game and I would urge you to go and see her at her LA show, but it’s already sold out too!
