FFO – MAYDAY PARADE, NECK DEEP
Pop punk heavyweights State Champs are back with their fifth album STATE CHAMPS into the world on 8th November. Hailing from Albany, New York, lead singer Derek DiScanio, bassist Ryan Scott Graham, guitarist Tyler Szalkowski, and drummer Evan Ambrosio
formed in 2010 and have been pushing the boundaries of pop-punk ever since. Following the 2022 release of Kings of the New Age -‘State Champs’ has been highly anticipated.
Having previously released ‘Silver Cloud’ and ‘Too Late to say’ comes this 12-track masterpiece. The fast-paced energy album strengthens the band’s pop-punk sound that we all know and love.
Opening up the album with ‘The Constant’ which sets the pace for the entire album with toe-tapping drums from Evan and roaring guitars from Tyler, this is a true pop-punk anthem starting strong. Seamlessly going into ‘Silver Cloud’ a punchy song with the addictive vocals from Derek. Following on from this is ‘Clueless’ a lyric that stood out to me was ‘it’s just no big deal, it’s just my world crashing down and out, my head is spinning now’ making this an ultimate break-up song with a twist.
‘Hell Of It’ is a true state champs’ song, with roaring vocals from Derek and screaming riffs from Tyler. ‘Save Face Story’ was the last single to be released before this incredible album goes out into the world. A real ear-worm of a track with addictive drum beats from Evan which make this the perfect penultimate track.
A true anthem-filled album from State Champs who are not scared to push the boundaries of Pop-punk.
Fave songs – “Hell of it”, “Sobering and Golden Years”
