The Germans of ScorpionsThe headliners of this first sold-out night of Rock in Rio Lisboa 2024, entered the World Stage with the game won in a venue that could no longer fit anyone in, completely packed to see a show of the highest standard.
The band, led by guitarist and founder Rudolf Schenker and charismatic vocalist Klaus Meine, presented a set list full of songs that have spanned the 40-year career of one of rock and hard rock's most legendary bands. One downside of Rock in Rio this year was that most of the audience was concentrated around the World Stage, and it took a lot of gymnastics to be able to see the stage or the big screens from far away, a point that will certainly be improved in the future.
As for the Scorpions, there was nothing new from a well-established band that, since the addition of drummer Mikkey Dee (ex Motörhead, ex King Diamond), has taken on a new lease of life. An example of this is the incredible drum solo, which lasted almost six minutes and was a show in itself. Hits such as "The Zoo", "Wind of Change", "Blackout", "Big City Nights" and many others had the help of the audience, who sang at the top of their lungs for half of Lisbon to hear.
They ended with "Rock You Like a Hurricane", making it clear that the first day of the Rock in Rio 2024 The celebration of the event's 20th anniversary in Portugal was like a hurricane, with concerts that touched everyone who set foot in Parque do Tejo and will certainly be remembered for many years to come.
