This is the first stand-alone show in Sheffield for Palaye Royale who hail from Las Vegas Nevada, it?s a matinee show at the legendary venue The Leadmill. It?s 12.30 on a Sunday afternoon but the excitement in the room makes it feel like Friday night.
This show comes around due to their newly released album ?Death or Glory? and they?ll be signing CD?s afterwards which adds to the fan’s excitement.
They arrive on stage; now as a five piece and introduce themselves and the new musicians who?ve helped create this album. They?re all dressed to perfection as complete rockstars with the stage presence to match.
We?re all very close to each other in a dimly lit room which is perfectly sized for this occasion, we?re so close to the band and they create such an intimate space, it really feels like we?re in their living room.
It?s an acoustic set and consists of percussion, guitars, vocals and a complimentary tambourine tying it all together. They don?t miss a beat and play frictionlessly. They?re consistently changing paces and vocal textures.
Just when we thought Remington?s voice couldn?t get any louder, his mic gets turned up and now he?s on full volume, his voice is extremely strong and distinct as ever.
The rumors of it being a full run through of the new album disappeared when they began to play ?Broken?. Remington comforts a fan in the audience when she gets emotional upon hearing this prominent song. His vocals are haunting for verses and chilling when he belts choruses.
They?re all severely multi-talented in their own rights, together they?re a force. It seems they feel the beat in their souls. They become the rhythm and it?s enchanting.
Remington’s dissonant vocals lead us into an unpredictable set list. Meaningful lyrics are even more heart felt in this setting. Emotions were released. Gravelly screams awakening our spinal senses. We?ve never heard screaming sound so beautiful.
They interact with the audience a lot, actively asking if we have any questions about their new masterpiece, instinctively and consistently checking in with us. The conversations get deep and they state ?Every album we create is mental turmoil. We?re sad musically and personally but we wanted this album to be more fun. Life deals you a certain card and you just have to deal with it. You can envy other people’s lives but everyone has the same shit? They come across as extremely humble and relatable. There?s more excitement from the crowd when they hint at collaborations with ?Yungblud? and ?Maneskin? It?s a fan in the audience?s birthday and Emerson takes the pearls from around his neck and gifts them to her. She?s ecstatic.
?Showbiz? was performed to perfection in this setting. You can tell this song comes from their hearts. Acoustic melodies seem to have been created specifically for this performance. They?re completely engrossed and smiling at each other throughout; confident that they’re impressing us.
?Dying in a hot tub? hits differently acoustically. The room is so silent besides the isolated vocals which emulate and echo all around us. We whisper along not wanting to miss a note of their perfected vocals….until the chorus.
There?s something so special about hearing such well-known songs played with an acoustic twist. Faster paced songs have us dancing unavoidably.
?Lonely? emotionally enthralled us all as a whole. We get a little closer to each other. There?s comfort even in the sadness and emotions in every scream.
They play a menacing version of ?Dark side of the silver spoon? Multiple percussion instruments and guitar twangs gives this song a whole new energy. Drum rolls lead to audience applauses which sound like we?re in an arena.
They end just when we?re wanting more, the intro to ?Mr. Doctor Man? is played and the crowd erupts with one last burst of energy, it?s a uniquely special moment when it?s sang word for word by every single person in the room. The audience and band become one for this song; any concerns we had about Remington straining and losing his voice are gone, we?ll take it from here.
It was fourteen pounds for such a beautiful show. They really do consistently surprise their fans with these intimate events and we hope they continue to have the capacity to always do so. Either way, todays screams will echo in our minds for the rest of our lives.
