Excel to Release Long Lost Album "Seeking Refuge"

Excel, the iconic crossover band from Los Angeles, is set to release their long-lost album, ?Seeking Refuge,? on July 19th through Southern Lord. Known for their classic albums ?Split Image? (1987) and ?The Joke?s On You? (1989), Excel has been a staple in the genre for decades. The band continues to captivate audiences worldwide and has graced stages at major European festivals.

?Seeking Refuge,? originally released in 1995 during the peak of grunge, offers a fresh perspective on Excel?s sound. The album, out of print for years, features a guest appearance from H.R. of Bad Brains on the track ?Take Your Part Gotta Encourage,? and a music video starring legendary skateboarder Tony Alva for the single ?Unenslaved.?

Bassist Shaun Ross reflects on the album, stating, ?A lot of people who know Excel might not be familiar with this record. It?s been out of print since ?95 and somewhat forgotten.?

The recording of ?Seeking Refuge? was a unique experience for the band, with Ross reminiscing about the time when H.R. from Bad Brains lived with him in the Fuct warehouse during the album?s production. The album showcases Excel?s versatility, blending elements of rock, funk, and grunge on tracks like ?Plastic Cracks? and ?Drowned Out.?

Produced by Ron Champagne (Jane?s Addiction, Alice In Chains), ?Seeking Refuge? defied the musical trends of the mid-?90s, offering a distinctive sound that didn?t fit into conventional categories. Despite the initial lukewarm reception, the album is now set for a reissue, complete with the band?s original logo.

Looking ahead, Excel is gearing up for new music, with plans to record a new album by 2025. The band recently welcomed Greg Cerwonka and Damon DeLaPaz as new members, promising an exciting chapter in their musical journey.

Don?t miss the reissued version of ?Seeking Refuge? by Southern Lord, now available on red vinyl and digital platforms. Pre-orders are available through Southern Lord, Southern Lord EU, and Bandcamp.
