After 25 years at the helm of one of heavy metal’s most enduring acts, Brent Hinds, guitarist, vocalist and founding member of Mastodon, has left the band. In a post on Facebook, the band has expressed their gratitude for the collaboration and music history they have written together. The separation was mutual.
It’s yet unknown who will take over the vocals, given the band are headlining this Sunday at Tool Live in the Sand in the Dominican Republic, but the band made it clear that their touring plans remain unchanged, including a highly anticipated slot supporting Slayer in Glasgow and London this July.
With a new album in the works and rumoured to be released later this year, there is ample speculation on how involved Brent Hinds was in the production. Of the new album, drummer Brann Dailor says “I hear some punk rock in there, but then I hear some insane prog and I hear the heaviest version of ourselves poking its head out again.”
“Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways. We?re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we?ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road. – Mastodon”
