"Get It Off My Chest" is built on a sweeping, angular riff, against a heavy rock backdrop reminiscent of both Alter Bridge and Flyleaf, with a healthy touch of In This Moment. A true story of mistakes made while trying to avoid a traumatic situation, Marisa's lyrics are deeply personal and brutally honest.
The video portrays the growth and strength that can be found on the other side of a seemingly bad experience. It also encapsulates, for the first time, that Marisa is able to embrace her body, her sexuality and her feminine strength.
Marisa says: "If you had told my insecure 18-year-old self that I would have created such an exposed and daring music video, I honestly wouldn't have believed you! But I think that's what makes the story behind it all the more powerful and true to the meaning of the album.
"The mood of the narrative changes over time, reflecting my journey of self-discovery, accepting my flaws, embracing my sexuality like never before (with strong BDSM and LGBTQIA+ themes) and assuming my feminine power.
"I start in a place of vulnerability and powerlessness, slowly unraveling myself, giving in to temptation and desires, until I finally take back control, accepting my mistakes and embracing my darker sides, becoming a stronger, more authentic version of myself.
"This is the first song and music video I've released where I felt it was relevant to speak publicly about my sexuality, which has been so liberating! The song and video are a celebration of resilience, sexuality and authenticity, and I hope it inspires others to embrace their journey of self-realization too."
