Umbra Vitae Announces Second Album, Light Of Death?

The band Umbra Vitae, made up of Jacob Bannon (Converge), Sean Martin (Twitching Tongues, ex-Hatebreed), Mike McKenzie (The Red Chord), Jon Rice (Uncle Acid, Tsjuder) and Greg Weeks (The Red Chord), has announced its second album, Light Of Death. Scheduled for release on June 7, 2024 by Deathwish Inc., the album was recorded by Kurt Ballou and Zach Weeks at God City Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.

Light Of Death comes with a shiver down the spine of violin before exploding into a madness of dueling guitars, and Umbra Vitae maintains the intensity in its first single, ?Belief Is Obsolete?, which is released today.

Umbra Vitae's Sean Martin comments on ?Belief Is Obsolete?: ?This song came from a demo I recorded in my old home studio, although, like all the songs on this album, we managed to make it even more disgusting in the best possible way! I like Swedish Death Metal and Thrash, can you tell? A big, mean, hairy final riff to take you away?

Jacob Bannon continues: ?Musically, ?Belief Is Obsolete? is a tribute to Bay Area Thrash by Sean Martin. The performances of all of us on this song are on the edge from start to finish. Lyrically, I explore the idea that ?belief? in the traditional sense is obsolete in the modern age we live in. It is used as a shield and a weapon socially, politically and spiritually, eventually becoming a burden for everyone.

Greg Weeks adds: "One of the great advantages of being in this band is that, at any given moment, there could be a smashing song written by Sean Martin on a Google Drive that you have access to and that few people have. This is an example of such a song. With a strong beat and full of riffs, ?Belief Is Obsolete? gets me excited!

Guitarist Mike McKenzie concludes by saying that the song ?? has a very heavy ending, with an overdriven intro to a great riff that is incredibly fun to play. I can't wait to play this song live.
