Brixton Academy was the host of one of the most anticipated rock shows of the year, with The Warning headlining their biggest UK gig so far and Sophie Lloyd opening the night: two different styles, one goal: pure, loud, rock.
The crowd was one of the most diverse we’ve seen, ranging from all ages and styles, and many fan clubs coming from Italy, Spain, and likely around the world, some even using masks from The Warning band members.
Sophie Lloyd
Sophie Lloyd came out with loads of energy, already swinging her guitar and playing Battleground to kick off the night. Right after Marisa Rodriguez joined her from Marisa and the Moths on vocals, the chemistry was instant. Marisa’s range matched Sophie’s fast, precise guitar playing. Together, they moved through riff-heavy originals and a the great Enter Sandman, which had the whole venue singing. Sophie’s technique is flawless, but it was the way she engaged with the crowd, interacting, making poses, interacting with all band members that kept the crowd even more excited.

The Warning
After seeing The Warning playing at a small, intimate gig as part of Sofar Sounds, we were eagerly waiting to see them play the songs with the energy they’re known for. As fog rolled across the three giant LED panels on stage, the Villarreal sisters stepped into view in matching red outfits, looking like they had come to conquer. And they did.
They opened with Six Feet Deep, all distortion and grit, and didn’t disappoint. The setlist covered a wide range of songs: the tight and punchy S!CK, the emotional hit Apologise, and the intense Escapism, which had one of the loudest sing-alongs of the night. The imagery on the LED panels changed with each track—sometimes abstract, sometimes funny, giving each song its atmosphere without taking attention away from the band.
Daniela’s guitar solo midway through gave the crowd a small pause, where she played with control and tone, letting each note cut through. Paulina and Alejandra returned, launching into CHOKE and MORE, both dark, heavy, and full of emotion.
Later in the set, they brought out Qué Más Quieres, sung in Spanish, and it didn’t matter if the crowd knew the words (most seemed to know), the energy just went even higher.
After EVOLVE, they left briefly before returning for the encore that the crowd was begging for. Narcisista came in hot, explosive, catchy, and loaded with attitude. And finally, Automatic Sun brought things to a close.
Both Sophie Lloyd and The Warning gave the crowd what they wanted and MORE, and definitely are off to even better and louder concerts.
