Delilah Bon’s highly anticipated headline London show has finally arrived. The brat punk icon took the stage at The Garage to perform material from her sophomore album “Evil, Hate Filled Female”. Her music defies easy classification into a single genre, which is a breath of fresh air in the heavy music scene.
Delilah Bon’s show is more than just a concert, it’s also a community gathering. With a significant focus on political themes throughout her career, Bon has established herself as a spiritual successor to Courtney Love for the British Gen Z. Her concerts are a safe space for connection and emotional processing, particularly for women and the LGBT+ community. It is a true joy to witness such affinity among people, even if it lasts just an hour and a half.
The show opened with a surprise appearance from drag performer Cleo De Vile, who made several additional appearances throughout the night. Despite the show being part of the tour promoting Bon’s latest album, she maintained balance on her setlist by including hits from all her releases, such as “I Wish A Bitch Would” and “Dead Men Don’t Rape”. Moving away from complex backing tracks in favour of live instrumental performance was a welcome enhancement to the experience of the show. During the show, Delilah debuted her latest single, “Not The President”, a stripped-back song in which she plays the guitar. It’s a very emotional response to what is currently happening globally due to the American presidential election.
Despite amassing millions of streams and views on social media, Delilah doesn’t see herself as a famous person and has a very down-to-earth attitude. She interacted with the audience throughout the show, sharing her microphone with them multiple times. Bon expressed her feelings sincerely and communicated her beliefs, inspiring her community.
Delilah Bon is a force of nature, and her performance imprints in the memory as an intricate experience. I cannot wait for the next one!
Venue: The Garage, London
Delilah was supported by the up-and-coming band Eville. Despite performing only half an hour after the doors opened, they had a substantial audience that reacted very positively to their performance. They describe themselves as a “brat metal” band, making them a perfect match for Delilah, a brat icon herself. We are excited to hear more from them!
