RedHook at The Lower Third, London – 25th April 2025

First up was Eville, who sounded even more incredible than I remembered! Their stage presence had also improved massively since I saw them supporting Wargasm in November. Eva Sheldrake‘s punchy lyrics and screams paired perfectly with Jude Richards‘ lower growls during their unreleased track ‘Get With Me’, I’m really looking forward to this one’s release! They also previewed another unreleased track, ‘No Pictures Please’ along with other fan favourites like ‘Leech’ and ‘Ballistic’. They had the mosh pits going from their very first note and kept the energy up throughout.

Next up was Defences, who I wasn’t familiar with beforehand but I thoroughly enjoyed their set. Performing many new songs from their latest album ‘Shadowlight’, they got the crowd even more hyped up with the circle pits spinning throughout their set while Cherry Duesbury filled the room with her insane vocals and hair flips. I particularly enjoyed how her vocals layered with William Young‘s screams during ‘In The Black’.

Last but not least was Australian genre-non-conformers RedHook, who came back to play their latest album ‘Mutation’ for us. Having done 2 UK/EU support tours in the last few years, it was finally time for their first European headline tour! Just when you thought they couldn’t get any better, they ramped up the energy and theatrics for their sold-out London show. Emmy Mack combined her extensive vocal range from smooth lyrics to fierce screams with her many outfit changes and props throughout the show, making it extra special for all the fans in attendance. With a bubble machine going in the background, Redhook brought out many guests to help sing their collaborations with them including Eva Sheldrake (Eville) for ‘HEXXX’, Cherry Duesbury (Defences) for ‘Imposter’, William Young (Defences) for ‘Cannibal’ and a fan for ‘Soju’.

Redhook don’t just know how to put on an incredible show, they also made time to ensure each member had a moment to shine with Alex Powys‘ drum solo, Craig Wilkinson‘s saxophone solo and Ned Jankovik‘s heavy basslines.

The entire room had the most incredible energy throughout the whole show with constant mosh and circle pits and walls of ‘hugs’. The evening ended with Emmy Mack singing ‘Dead Walk’ on top of the bar before diving into the crowd and crowdsurfing back to the stage during ‘Bad Decisions’ where she was met by all their crew and support bands on stage ‘toilet papering’ the crowd.

It was one of the sweatiest and most fun gigs I’ve been to in a while, and they even hinted that they may be back again in October! so time to familiarise yourself with their music!
