Mark your calendars for May 9th, when a new album is set to drop from San Francisco’s genre-crossing rock band Black Map. Released under their new label, Spinefarm, and produced with Saosin guitarist Beau Burchell, the urgency of the sound is evident from the first kick drum off their freshly released single, Hex (Come Get it).
Remarking on the title, vocalist/bassist Ben Flanagan shares: “It’s a song about finding the place we can go to mentally, that clears away whatever storm we are facing. […] The ‘come get it’ is really a call to action in that way.”
In the confusing overwhelming world we live in, Hex promises a dynamic experience, carrying an “unstoppable momentum”, as drummer Chris Robyn puts it, in the band’s signature style, as well as an exploration of personal struggles, what authenticity looks like, and how music can serve to ground and connect us in dividing times.
