Before we get to the swing with summer festivals, the party metal legends Electric Callboy served us on a silver platter their new single – “Revery”. Germans presented to the public vastly different music than their fans could usually expect.

The three-minute song is dissimilar to the usual laid-back sound, with some heavy elements that Electric Callboy normally shows. Deeper meaning lyrics, fewer electronic samples change to heavier guitars or even the inclusion of a children’s choir was an unusual take for them. “Revery” feels more like a true metalcore effort from them rather than the expected party vibe. Even though the band still uses some musical elements that make them distinctive in their sound, especially in verses and pre-choruses, where there are very unique guitar riffs and drum beats for Electric Callboy, the song feels true to them and interesting to listen to. It reminds me of their other “serious” approach song from Tekkno album – “Mindreader” – that is similarly a serious lyrics song but has that heavy take on their music.
“Revery” release also included a music video that feels like an engaging experience. Produced in a cinematic way in-house by Pascal Schillo (guitar) and his brother Oliver with the inclusion of VFX by Outside the Club team – an award-winning VFX company producing effects for giants such as Amazon or Netflix branches in Germany – is one of the best video pieces that Electric Callboy has presented to fans. The mystery behind the video, accompanied by dark visuals, costumes and fantastic acting by Noèl Gabriel Kipp, made it almost unnoticeable to see that the band is potentially hiding a new drummer that will replace David Friedrich, who has been on duty since 2012. With the current announcement that Frank Zummo (formerly of Sum41) will cover the summer shows for the band… It is really intriguing who was playing drums for the band for “Revery” music video.
