Chicago punk veterans Rise Against are back with as powerful a message as ever and it takes shape via new album Ricochet. This will be their first new studio album in four years,and is set to arrive on August 15th via Loma Vista Recordings.
The band are as politically and socially involved as ever, and have had the resounding support on the live circuit that a new album is hugely welcome. The record will be in no way without its merits however as on staff for Ricochet is GRAMMY®-winner Catherine Marks, known for work with Boygenius, Manchester Orchestra, & Foals as well as alt-rock icon Alan Moulder on mixing, who is know for work with Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, Paramore. Ricochet is an album that comes out at a pivotal time as ever in the world, as well as for a band as passionate as Rise Against. The build to the new record starts immediately.
Leading the charge is the new single, ‘I Want It All’. This track has been steadily featured in live shows over the last year, but now drops in its official form. The track is accompanied by a montage heavy music video packed with poignant visuals based on Sisyphous and Greek Mythology, and how we see that in todays world. Ultimately it is a track about determination, and frontman Tim McIlrath describes it as a call to question the systems designed to provoke outrage and division:
“The algorithm wants our attention so it is designed to make us laugh or cry, but mostly, it wants us to be angry… Who benefits from our anger?”
The single follows recent tracks ‘Nod’ and ‘Prizefighter’. ‘Nod has had some decent circulation over the last year, and ‘Prizefighter’ just had its live debut this week when Rise Against travelled over to the UK for some intimate acoustic shows and a Q&A in Greater London In support of Ricochet, Rise Against are embarking on a massive global tour. With festival appearances lined up at Download and Vans Warped Tour,as well as European dates that are set to start imminently.
