Slung’s latest single ‘Class A Cherry’ takes inspiration from sex work and the power dynamics involved within the profession. This track is from their upcoming debut album ‘In Ways’, out on May 2nd via Fat Dracula.
Riff-heavy Brighton-based band Slung, have released a new single from their upcoming debut album ‘In Ways’, which is set for release on the 2nd May through Fat Dracula. ‘Class A Cherry’ is already out with its ominous, undulating bassline from Vlad Matveikov, leading into a highly evocative vocal from Katie Oldham. The strings are composed and performed by the amazing Ukrainian group, Kaska Studio String Section.

Katie says: “This song was inspired by strippers, escorts and sex workers and the power dynamics that come with that profession. It’s told from the perspective of a woman weaponizing the male gaze that she must endure regardless, and advising others to use it for their own advantage.”
With layers of metal, grunge and an all-round mix of alternative influences, ‘In Ways’ has been brought to life by Slung through their musical skills and artistic vision. The band’s line-up is completed by the accomplished Ali Johnson on guitar and powerhouse rhythm-master Ravi Martin on drums. Katie’s storytelling and the compelling way she brings together personal, lived experiences and combines them with more abstract, conceptual ideas and characters, is showcased through a collaborative combustion of its members’ experiences, circumstances and accomplished musicianship.

Slung’s sonic world is a true musical supernova, with the band’s members referencing influences as far-reaching as Deftones, Baroness, Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Queens of the Stone Age, Fleetwood Mac and even Chappell Roan.
You can get a further taste of this with previously-released tracks ‘Thinking About It’, the psych-infused ‘Collider’ and the trauma-fueled, ribcage-rattling ‘Laughter.
