Norway’s largest rock festival, Tons of Rock, is set to deliver an unforgettable 2025 edition, showcasing an explosive lineup that spans decades and genres. Held in the heart of Oslo, this highly anticipated event will bring together legendary icons, fan favorites, and rising stars, celebrating the unyielding spirit of rock. With tickets selling rapidly and excitement reaching a fever pitch, fans from around the globe are preparing to join this epic celebration.
Rock’s enduring legacy has been defined by constant reinvention, from its rebellious punk roots to genre-defying experimentation. The journey began in the 1970s with the rise of punk trailblazers like Sex Pistols and The Damned, paving the way for thrash metal dominance in the 1980s, spearheaded by Metallica and Megadeth. The 1990s saw the grunge explosion led by Alice in Chains, alongside the emergence of European black metal with bands like Emperor and Dimmu Borgir. In the 2000s, alternative rock and pop-punk took center stage with acts such as Green Day and Muse, while the 2010s brought indie innovation and genre-blending stars like Avenged Sevenfold.
Now, Tons of Rock 2025 brings this rich history full circle, blending legendary acts with modern innovators. Highlights include grunge legend Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains, punk pioneers The Damned, and festival favorites like Steel Panther, Myles Kennedy, Carcass, and Ugly Kid Joe. The festival’s breadth extends to stoner rock with The Sword, deathcore with Fit for an Autopsy, and dark, theatrical performances from Belphegor. Adding a unique touch, tattoo artist and musician Kat Von D will join the lineup, while Norway’s own Slomosa and The Cruel Intentions shine a spotlight on the thriving local scene.
“The magic of Tons of Rock lies in creating a space where fans and artists connect. This 2025 lineup is a testament to our commitment to the world of rock, blending iconic names with fresh talent. We’re honoured to build a festival that grows alongside its audience, and this year’s roster proves just how strong and diverse rock continues to be.”
Festival organizer Jarle Kvåle
A standout addition to the festival’s legacy is the inclusion of Bastardane, featuring James Hetfield’s son, a poignant nod to Metallica’s historic 2024 performance at Tons of Rock. Further expanding its scope, the festival introduces a new stage, The Storm, dedicated to showcasing underground talent and emerging acts, reinforcing its role as a platform for the future of rock and metal.
Tons of Rock is not just a festival; it’s a global gathering of rock’s most passionate fans. In 2024, it drew over 150,000 attendees from 80 countries, cementing its status as a premier international event. With the 2025 lineup revealed and tickets selling fast, this year promises to be another milestone in rock history.
